Sensors & Hardware

PalmSecure sensors are the hardware devices that capture palm vein patterns for enrollment and verification. Understanding the available sensor models, their capabilities, and how to integrate them is essential for deploying your biometric authentication system.

PalmSecure Technology

Fujitsu's PalmSecure technology uses near-infrared light to capture the unique pattern of veins inside the palm.

How It Works

Capture Process:

  1. Illumination: Near-infrared LEDs (850nm) illuminate the palm
  2. Absorption: Hemoglobin in blood absorbs infrared light
  3. Contrast: Veins appear dark against lighter tissue
  4. Capture: Camera sensor captures the vein pattern image
  5. Processing: Software extracts unique features to create template

Live Detection

PalmSecure includes liveness detection to ensure the scanned palm is from a live person.

Key Advantages

Security:

  • Veins are internal and cannot be seen externally
  • Difficult to replicate or forge
  • No risk of latent fingerprints being lifted

Hygiene:

  • Contactless scanning (50mm distance)
  • No physical contact with sensor surface
  • Ideal for healthcare and food service environments

Accuracy:

  • False Acceptance Rate (FAR): < 0.00001%
  • False Rejection Rate (FRR): < 0.01%
  • Consistent across demographics

User Acceptance:

  • Natural, intuitive gesture
  • Fast capture (1-2 seconds)
  • Works with gloves (thin latex)
